Giving cereal crops the stamina they need to thrive

New fungicide seed treatment from BASF offers unique disease control and plant health benefits

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, November 7, 2017 — The moment a seed hits the soil, the clash between yield potential and environmental stress begins. Using seed treatments on cereal crops is a key component for staying a step ahead of Mother Nature to make sure plants have the season-long protection they need to flourish.

To that end, the newly-released Stamina® F4 Cereals fungicide seed treatment helps to provide growers with a faster start at planting and a stronger finish at harvest.

"The four modes of action in Stamina F4 deliver more consistent germination and rapid emergence, even in cold conditions," said Justin Clark, BASF Technical Marketing Manager. "It contains F500®, which works with Xemium® fungicide to deliver disease control and plant health benefits during critical early crop development stages."

The names of those two active ingredients may sound familiar. F500 is an active ingredient in Headline® fungicide. It provides improved stress tolerance and plant health benefits to aid in robust plant growth.

Xemium is one of the key ingredients in Priaxor® fungicide. It features a special molecular design that allows it to easily enter and travel within the seed. Xemium then binds tightly to the plant surfaces and systemically moves throughout the plant over time. Additionally, Xemium provides plant mobility and translocation to ensure the fungicide spreads throughout the entire plant, from roots to shoots.

"The heightened mobility helps ensure longer-lasting continuous protection and more consistent performance in terms of disease prevention and post-infection control," said Clark. "Meanwhile, systemicity moves the other three modes of action throughout the entire plant as it grows, providing reliable, dependable control from diseases, such as Fusarium and Rhizoctonia root rot."
